I have been a Blue Sky Bio One Stage (tissue level) user since 2009 and have never had any issues until the introduction of digital workflow. Aside from Blue Sky Bio the primary implant fixture that I use is ZimVie, formerly Zimmer, TSVM and have been happily scanning with their Encode healing abutment/scan body and my iTero machine for years now. Recently I put aside my trusty analog materials and started using the Blue Sky Bio MOD 5500 scan body which is manufactured by the company to be the universal scan body for the One Stage System. As the attached images will show there is something wrong… Before I resorted to my favorite self centered tactic of blaming someone else I retraced my steps to determine where I went wrong to cause this. Because I have enjoyed so much success with my scanning workflow on top of ZimVie hardware and with analog workflow on the Blue Sky I was convinced that there must be some particular trick of the trade that I was missing as it relates to the BSB scanning protocol. My communication with the folks at Lab Pronto, lab affiliated with Blue Sky Bio, uncovered an internal glitch in the system which was causing the gap between the ti-base and the implant collar. The frustrating thing about this is that the MOD 5500 scan body has been in production and used for a while now yet this is the first time this is being brought up. I have always preferred to lean on the reputation and proven track record of products made by long standing reputable implant manufacturers, hence my 15+ years relationship with Zimmer, but years ago another respected surgeon introduced me to Blue Sky Bio One Stage and I accepted the fact that a discount company can and does make a good product. Just because this discount company, which I have used successfully for 15 years now, makes a good implant I think it is safe to say that their attention to the mechanical details might be where the discount comes in. As a result I will resort back to analog methods for Blue Sky restorations until this issue is resolved and I would encourage everyone to critically evaluate our own results in hopes of better outcomes…
