The attached photo is from a 56 y/o caucasian female, non-smoker, non-contributory medical history. I was certain that the lesion was either a pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, or giant cell granuloma but biopsy revealed the worst case scenario.
doesn’t look like PG but SCC would have been the bottom of my DDX since pt doesn’t smoke. But I’ve seen cases where constant occlusal trauma to cheek caused SCC and poor OH can cause SCC due to constant healing. more mitosis more chance of error in DNA replication and more chance for cancer cells to develop. Unfortunate. hopefully u caught it fast and hasn’t spread.
