How can one distinguish between osteoid and granulation tissue?

When performing early implant placement (4-8 weeks), how can one distinguish between osteoid and granulation tissue? I occasionally come across soft or yellowish tissue and I’m concerned that the previous dentist may not have completely removed the granulation tissue.

What kind of bone do you normally see during early implant placement (4-8 weeks)?
