Over the past 20 years I have seen various companies put ot HA coated implants and the data would suggest that while they might experience better bone:implant contact and long term survival they also demonstrate more marginal bone loss compared to conventional implant surfaces. As a loyal ZimVie, formerly Zimmer, customer I noticed that they have an HA coated fixture which seems to utilize the best of both worlds by coating the middle portion of the fixture with HA and maintaining the traditional SBM for the coronal and apical portion. In speaking with the folks at the top of the food chain at ZimVie I discovered that while this configuration makes up only a small portion of their sales there is definitely a contingency of highly skilled and experienced clinicians that swear by this product. I am aware of many of the problems experienced by some of the full HA coated products but this hybrid SBM-HA-SBM fixture has performed quite well and everyone I have spoken to that uses it will swear by its superiority. I started, about a year ago, using this fixture in place of the traditional SBM coated ZImVie TSVM and while it is too soon for me to give an accurate assessment I have been extremely pleased thus far and something about that white HA coated center portion just looks good and has a feel good thing about it. I am curious if anyone on this forum has any experience with HA fixtures… I can say that I have removed a lot of failing/ailing fixtures over the years and I don’t ever recall removing one with an HA coating
To think about it, i also never remove one with ha coating
