Gum inflammation post root canal treatment and crown placement

February 2025. I had seven lower front teeth root canal treated and crowned 5 months ago. Since then I have experienced persistent gum sensitivity to light touch around these teeth. There are no visible swellings or redness and I maintain good oral hygiene. Flossing is easy and there is no bleeding. Zirconia crowns placed on the lower front teeth using a 3M high-strength cement (possibly RelyX). The gum sensitivity has not improved over time. Initially, I noticed a sense of tightness in the lower jaw since the crowns were placed. Not sure if this is happening due to residual cement (subgingival) or some type of pressure or trauma to gum tissue. I have an OPG post procedure and before and after photos of the front teeth. I am getting used to the sensitivity and discomfort in the front teeth area but would like to get some relief. Any suggestions on what are the options and what specialist would be appropriate to show this to?

Its is a very common issue that is encountered when “aesthetic” crowns are done because the treating dentist wants them to look good so he/she will hide the margin slightly below the gum line. In doing this the biologic width is often violated which results in chronic inflammation. Ideally a periodontist would have performed crown lengthening prior to the restoration phase but in this case it can be done now. This is probably the most common issue I have encountered over the past 25 years as people want their teeth fixed yesterday and don’t really want to spend the money or the time to have an additional procedure. It is an easy, though potentially costly, procedure that will resolve your problem but it might expose some dark lines around the gum line. I hope this helps and good luck to you…
